Fall Soup Recipes

Fall Soup Recipes

I do love summer, pretty much everything about it. Some days I would be fine moving back to the Caribbean where my grandparents immigrated from. But living in a place with four seasons has its own beauty. Eating with the seasons can accentuate this, really make you feel present in the time you’re in. And what’s more of an indication that fall has come than our sudden physical longing for warm, thick, sweet and cozy soups?? Let’s give our bodies what they want, and fill up on the nutrients and grounding qualities that the autumnal harvest has to offer.

Here are some soup recipes for you to try this fall:

    • Ginger Soup With Pea Dumplings
    • Butternut Squash Red Lentil Soup
    • Autumn Coconut Soup I liked the sound of this one because she calls it a “dump soup” which I know many of us would appreciate. She doesn’t use fresh produce, but you can definitely do so! You can also view this recipe as a way to make use of preserved produce (cooked and pureed pumpkin and boiled & frozen carrots, as an example)
    • Boscht I admit I have still never made borscht!!! But this is the year for it. I had an English student for the past few years who always used to talk about it being her favourite food. I do love beets, so why not?

And if you're interested in my less scientific process for making a stew, you'll find it in this blog post from last year.

Challenge: Make a little extra each time you make soup, not just for yourself to freeze, but to give to someone else, or spontaneously invite someone over for a meal!
