New Partnership Brings More Goodness To Saint John
Share
I am very happy to announce something that has been on my heart for a while and with a good nudge from one of our community members is now coming to pass! Read on to see how you can help spread the goodness of the earth to more people in our community.
What?
Give the gift of healthy, whole food to individuals and families in the Saint John area by making a financial donation to one of two partner community centres for the purchase of produce for their community members. Both community centres are registered charities. You can make a donation now for the holidays on behalf of a loved one, or anytime throughout our produce box season.
Why?
Building up our community is a big part of why LifeDirt exists. As you know, we offer the "Share the Love" program through which our customers can contribute to food for others. We also donate extra produce ourselves on a regular basis to organizations and individuals in Saint John.
As a small business, we are not yet in a place financially where we can donate large amounts of produce ourselves. However, we do have a lot of connections in the city with non-profits! This new initiative is an attempt to leverage those connections to spread the goodness of fresh, local produce to more people in the city who might not be able to afford a produce box. The idea came to us from one of our subscribers!
We view this as a win-win-win-win:
- Recipients receive whole, healthy produce to support themselves and their loved ones.
- You have an opportunity to share something you love with someone who would be unable to access it otherwise. Additionally, you will receive a tax receipt for your donation from whichever centre you donate to.
- Community centres are able to move forward in their mission of promoting food security.
- We are able to extend our mission of connecting the community with nature through food to more people.
How?
Write a cheque or send an e-transfer to either of the community centres listed below, including "Food Security: LifeDirt" in the memo line. The amount is up to you, but should be a multiple of 50 or 83, so that it will account for a whole small or large produce box.* If you want to donate 3 large boxes, for example, you would send $249. If you want to donate 2 small boxes, you would send $100.
The community centres will then purchase those produce boxes from LifeDirt, and we will deliver them to the centres where they will determine who receives them and how and when they are distributed.

What else?
Some employers have a donation matching program, whereby you provide them with the receipt for a donation you've made to a registered charity and they match your donation to that charity, doubling your gift! Check with your employer and see if they offer that opportunity.
*Please make sure to specify the purpose of the donation. If you want to donate a whole subscription, please shoot me an email or give me a call to figure out the total amount, as our subscription boxes cost less than others.
Thank you so much for considering being part of this initiative with us. Wishing you a joyful holiday season,
Miriam
