What's The Deal With Grocery Add-Ons?

What's The Deal With Grocery Add-Ons?

I often talk about our veggies, where they come from and why we choose local, which makes sense since our main product is … fresh produce! However, another product we offer which doesn’t get as much press is our Grocery Add Ons. These are food items that are not fresh produce which can be added to a produce box or simply ordered alone. Some examples include fresh sourdough bread from East Coast Bistro, cheese from Armadale Dairy, maple syrup from Wabanaki Maples, meats from Ferron Family Farms, herbal teas from Bear Roots Forest, wild rice from Foraged North, grains from Speerville Flour Mill and honey from Norton Shore Living.

The idea with these is to help you round out your box, maybe even save a trip to the grocery store, and support even more local producers. It’s essentially a farmers’ market in a box. The downside is that you don’t get to talk to all the producers yourself, but then for some the plus is that you don’t have to talk to anyone :) Just kidding, the plus is also that you have these products available all through the winter as well, and it provides another avenue for sales for these producers.

These days when people are looking more than ever for locally sourced food items, our Grocery Add Ons are an easy peasy answer.

Several weeks ago, I placed a large order through Speerville Flour Mill. I wanted to talk a bit about this as they have way more than flour. This company is located in Speerville, NB, and processes and imports all sorts of dried goods, and even things like nut butters. All of their wheat products, oats, all types of flour (not rice) and corn are grown and made in Canada. Of the other products we offer from them, the green lentils, pancake mix, cereal mix, hemp seeds, vinegar and tahini are all made in Canada. We also carry different grains like amaranth and quinoa, as well as chia seeds, tahini, sea salt, brown rice flour and apple cider vinegar.

If you’re interested in these products, head to our website and have a look to see if they might fill any gaps in your pantry. Thank you to our friends at Speerville Flour Mill for providing such a wonderful product!
